Gorgeous lush grounds with plentiful wildlife. Excellently prepared food and a good variety. If being around friendliness and exceptional customer service skills are important for you to have a nice vacation, look no further, the staff at this resort set the standard. We stayed in a Preferred Club suite and everything was incredibly seamless - which in our opinion was worth it, if not only to enjoy the Seaside Grill breakfast and the exceptional staff there.

Absolutely beautiful resort with all of the amenities you could ask for. Excellent spa service. The attention to detail across every section of the resort is impeccable. José at the Seaside Grill was our waiter at breakfast each morning and he was phenomenal! Each building has a dedicated concierge that you can text with any requests or questions. The food was great for an all-inclusive. The beach and pools were amazing. My minor complaint was the amount of sargassum at the beach, but they do work to clear it daily. This resort exceeded my expectations and I hope to be back again soon!

I don’t think you could dream up a more perfect beach (okay, maybe except for the vendors, but even they didn’t detract). The pools at the beach had a fun energy without being too much of a party vibe, and the quiet pool in the back was a perfect spot to relax. Service was incredible, though sometimes it felt like they could have used a few more wait staff by the pool. Food was excellent (though nothing mind-blowing), and the drinks were great. During the day it seemed like they mixed them to be pretty weak, which I appreciated, and at night they definitely tasted a bit more alcoholic (though still nothing crazy). Preferred club was definitely a good choice!

Nut allergy warning: Don't trust something even if the written ingredients don't have nuts, because quite a lot of dishes use almond milk, almond liqueur, or macha sauce with peanuts. I did have two severe reactions while here purely due to cross contamination, so I would overall avoid anything Mexican (due to the peanut macha sauce) or grilled unless it's specially prepped (because of cross with marinades). The labeling is inconsistent across restaurants and many dishes that you wouldn't expect have do have nuts (for example, the chocolate cake uses almond milk). With a Preferred Club booking, we were escorted from the main lobby so quickly that we didn't even get champagne. But, we got cocktails in the Preferred Club while waiting for our concierge, so no complaints. The Preferred Club pitch was more around other Secrets locations. Otherwise, Preferred Club benefits included concierge beach chairs (didn't really matter, the non-preferred had waiters too, and it was always crowded) and access to the Preferred Club lounge (I pretty much never went back). I would the Preferred Club is worth the extra cost if you drink the higher-end lounge liquor or really like Greek food for the Santorini reservation. Before going: Look for flight deals; book a private shuttle (we used USA Travel for $205 round trip for two); men, there is a dress code at some restaurants so do pack some short sleeved collared shirts and long pants. They do enforce it. BRING YOUR OWN MEDS AND SUNSCREEN. It is very pricey on site. Reef-safe sunscreen is a must if you're snorkeling. We did our exchange to pesos in the US at a bank and estimated about $30/day in tips. Weather: we got unlucky with weather for the first day, but it was beautiful for the rest despite Maps forecasts. The resort comes very prepared - umbrellas between every cabana and restaurant, plenty of towels, etc. It only rained on the afternoon of our first day briefly and was totally sunny for the rest. Google Maps said the weather would be rainy/stormy all weekend but it really only happens for like 30 minutes a day. Overall, TL;DR: -Decent hard product, some signs of age and wear and tear, mosquitoes were a problem if you're in the forest hammocks, unlucky sargassum season 7/10 -Great soft product unless you've got something outside of their script 8/10 (really me 6/10 my mom 9/10). Don't trust the estimates for dinner waits if you want to go somewhere specific; just send someone over to get in line 30 mins early if it's a busy weekend. -Truly all inclusive, never wanting for food or drink. The food or drink is decent to good (If these were real restaurants, I would not go out of my way to return, but they're better than cruise ships I've remembered and the buffet was one of the best I've been to despite the allergic reactions)

My wife and I just returned from our second stay at Secrets Akumal, and it was nothing short of incredible! From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make sure our trip was memorable. Ana, who looked after us at the Bali beds, was absolutely amazing, so attentive and kind. Guillermo at Himitsu delivered the best service we’ve ever experienced at a restaurant. Gina, our concierge, checked in with us daily to make sure we had everything we needed, and her care made such a difference. Ricardo at the beach was fantastic, he not only provided excellent service but also remembered our names throughout our entire stay, which made us feel truly valued. The entertainment team, especially Alejandro and Max, kept us and our new friends laughing, engaged, and entertained the whole trip. A special thank you as well to Cesar Montoya for going above and beyond to make sure our return visit was extra memorable. Secrets Akumal has gained guests for life! We can’t wait to come back again!
