I am giving this resort a five star review, but with a caveat: it is a quality budget resort. The staff have been exceptional, and while the grounds may appear somewhat dated, they are beautifully maintained. However, the daytime entertainment has not consistently followed the posted schedule and has been somewhat lacking. Additionally, the food is what you would typically expect at a budget resort. It's clear that the employees work hard to create a lovely environment, and they are always very friendly and accommodating. The only thing that would prevent me from staying again isn't related to the resort, but to getting "shaken down" for a large amount of taxes at the airport.

Despite my afraid of finding a beach with sargazo, the beach is phantastic. Hotel is very clean and service is friendly at all times; special mention, Perla Bibiano (guest service) took excellent care of us making us feeling comfortable and supporting any doubt, questions wrt hotel facilites and surroundings. I will always appreciate decision to have come to this place and will remind great holiday and experience. 😘😘😘

I just got back from a week long stay at Allegro Playacar, and we all had a wonderful time. The breakfast and dinner buffets were my favorite! The staff was so kind and sweet, and the customer service is top tier. Mayra was very patient helping us book our excursions and giving us tips for local outings. Saul did a great job cleaning our room, and even made us some towel art. The dining staff, including Humberto and Isaac, all did an amazing job keeping our drinks topped off and making us feel so at home. We all truly felt like we were treated like family, and I would definitely come back.

Excellent service! Victor Rendon and Perla Bibiano in the department of services were so helpful and kind. They made the check in experience very pleasant and also very kind people! Love the people here, VIVA MEXICO :)

Diamond Club Golf Tournament

The biggest issue with our recent stay was the food. It ranged from average to awful. The 3 "premium" restaurants were not all open every evening. Usually only 1 or 2 of the 3. And guests only got to make a reservation 1 or 2 nights of the stay. But the food in the 1 we got to eat at was good. The buffets were awful...in flavor and options. The drinks had a smaller amount of alcohol, but it is an all inclusive. That is to be expected. Better food would take this review from a 2 star to a 4 star.

The Wedding of Our Dreams! We got married at this incredible hotel, and it was truly was an amazing experience. Our wedding coordinator, Araly, went above and beyond to make sure our wedding day was flawless. She was kind, attentive, and genuinely cared about making our celebration special. We were able to enjoy our wedding day and not worry about anything. It was everything we dreamed of and more! We’ll cherish the memories forever and can’t wait to come back to this resort again. Thank you for making our special day absolutely perfect! 💍🌴✨

Skip the restaurant and go to the buffet at night for the best server RIGO!! He is very attentive, kind, hard worker and always present for us when we needed something! He is the best. The food is better. The service is better. You won't be wrong with that! The room are nice but sometimes they forgot to give us the small hand towels lol. But it's okay. Also one time they forgot to close the door of our balcony after cleaning it and the animals were in our room! The raccoon looking like cats was enjoying the room. The cocktails are SO GOOD, sweet and strong. Best service on food and drinks for sure!

We met Mau y Abril at the adult pool and they both have given us the best time at Sandos. Mau made sure we were having a great day at the pool playing volleyball, and last night he entertained us very very well at the Disco. Oh my he looks good jaja. He is a very nice person and very respectful. Abril completely captured my heart. She is beautiful and friendly and she took time every day to make sure we have everything we need. We enjoyed learning about the country of Mexico and played many activities wirh her. She invited us to the Disco and took time to welcome us, dance with us, and made sure they played the Hispanic songs that we love from Mexico. Abril is a very special women who loves to learn the customs and language of her customers. I can see that she has an amazing future and any resort is blessed to have her as a worker. We are friends now and I can't wait to watch her grow into a very successful career.

The staff here is absolutely fantastic. I had an incident where I accidentally left some belongings in my room. Upon discovering this later that night, I had the wonderful Lore Moreno from guest services helping me around the clock to locate and get my items back to me. She went completely above and beyond, communicating with me and her staff even on days when she was not there in order to secure my stuff and get it back to me. Wonderful people all around. Thank you Lore!!

You can tell he takes pride in what he does and in sharing the best of Mexican cuisine. He made the entire experience feel warm, welcoming, and unforgettable. Our stay at Royal Hideaway Playacar was absolutely wonderful! The resort itself is stunning – beautifully maintained grounds, lush greenery, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes it easy to relax the moment you arrive. The location couldn’t be better, with a gorgeous beach and easy access to Playa del Carmen’s shops and attractions. Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable – perfect for unwinding after a day in the sun. The staff truly made our stay exceptional; everyone we encountered was warm, attentive, and eager to help with anything we needed. The food was fantastic with plenty of variety, though a few dishes could use a bit more flavor at times. Still, the overall dining experience was excellent, and we appreciated the high quality and presentation of every meal. Only downside was the limited nightly entertainment. Overall, Royal Hideaway Playacar is a beautiful, relaxing resort with top-notch service and a fantastic location. We left feeling refreshed and would definitely come back again!

Ok let’s make a simple review because everything was above perfect. Staff, always with a smile making you comfortable super professional to name a few thank you Roberto (animator) Alexa, Alexi, Carlos, Victor, Ulises, Julian, and the great host Yuliana and Kathya and so on. Thank you for everything you are the best. Our concierge Cipriano was super patience and very professional. Food, perfect as much as you want with nice finest restaurants. If you expect lobster very single day just remember how much you paid for the entire package and you will definitely see that you cannot ask for more. Drinks as many you want, all brands all day. It was amazing. Please don’t forget to leave tips they deserved. Hotel, excellent is not a brand new hotel,but is vey well care. Surroundings are amazing it looks like you are in the middle of the paradise too much green and an artificial river with two main pools in front of the beach and a few private small pools with jacuzzi yo spend time with your love. Like I said we travel a lot and this place is in our list to come back. Thank you to all of you from your friends Oscar and Maria.

The resort is beautiful, on the beach, with nice and clean rooms. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The only reason for four instead of five stars are the included dinners and shows are all by reservation through the concierge, and everything was fully booked until 2130. The stay was incredible and worth coming again

Great place, spent 7 nights here for our honeymoon, food is amazing drinks were good. The semi private pools are a bonus as well. The only negative things I have is that the room always had a musty smell to it until we covered the drains with towels, also for a couples resort we only kept getting one coffee mug put in our room, and we also after the 3rd day not as much refreshments were being put in pur room even when we would leave extra things for the cleaners, also we really notice that if you speak Spanish you get a little more attention from the servers and the resort staff, at times we felt really our of place when in a restaurant those how could speak Spanish would get extra time at their tables. Overall I would love to come back and tell friends to come as well. I've always gone to Dominican Republic, this was my first time in Mexico and will never go anywhere else.

We spent 10 days at Royal Hideaway Playacar and had a truly wonderful experience. The resort is peaceful and beautifully maintained, with a fantastic beachfront and a relaxed, adults-only vibe. The beds were super comfortable, making it easy to unwind after fun-filled days. The food was great overall, though a bit inconsistent at times. That said, there were some real highlights: the grilled octopus available at several restaurants was excellent, the mole sauce at Spices was rich and flavorful, and the beersicle dessert at Spices was a fun surprise! The real stars of our stay were the staff. Huge shoutout to Gabriela, the best concierge we’ve ever had—attentive, kind, and incredibly helpful. And we can’t thank the activities team enough: Roberto, Carlos, Raul, and Anna brought amazing energy and made every day fun with games, activities, and smiles. We left with great memories and would definitely recommend Royal Hideaway Playacar to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation in Playa del Carmen.

Food was great, staff was great and everything was great! One thing I hate is people to lie!!! You check in and then they offer you massages upgrades on the room and other things. My friend and I decided to get massages and of course use some point credits well you can only use 100 credits and they tell you a price, but once you check out they throw in service fees that they don't tell you about. Watch out and make sure you get copies of the amount they quote you. If not all kinds of service fees will be thrown at you. That's the only distasteful thing about the resort.

The stay was truly amazing, great waiters/waitresses, great food selection and the views are great.. I have to give this resort a ⭐️ due to the trust & confidence I’ve lost in the safety of leaving items in the room.. The way the situation was handled by the public relations manager onsite on October 8, 2025 was purely unprofessional. I could not speak with a General Manager on site about the situation. This truly made me feel as if I’m lying about what was missing. I remained cordial, respectful during the process.. The internal “investigation” was never properly updated nor closed with me personally prior to my departure which meant that it was conducted for customer appeasement and at the end, it was truly unprofessional for these actions to occur. It was offered to contact the local police authorities.. However, I put my trust and confidence that the managers of this resort will due it’s diligence in this case to rectify this issue. As of October 10, 2025, No one has verbally contacted myself personally to close out the investigation properly as E-responses are written on this review about what was offered which again, is truly professional. I solicit to future travelers, please be cognizant of your stay. I am not writing this review out of anger, just expressing my experience.. At this time, I will not recommend this resort.

So honestly I liked this place except for the pricing of amenities..... I am a some what of a world traveler so I feel I can justify my comment... it's .54centUSD to 1 peso, so why on earth are you charging 394 dollars usd for a massage!!! The pricing is extremely outrageous!!! I have been to "high class " locations around the world and they didn't even charge that much ! The service was good but not that great for the price. And let's not get started in the "hotel credit " I booked and my hotel credit was $750 usd" but when I got there they try to say it was only $250. After that mix was cleared (the next day) they then tell you how you can spend your credit!! They also try to trick you into coming to a time share meeting!! I liked everything up until that part ..when I arrived I had $250 spa credit after they realized I had $750 hotel credit they marked it down to $150.. they tell you how you can spend your credit...they really still want you to spend additional money so be prepared for that!! Do not do it none of it is worth it honestly it's supposed to be all inclusive but the charge is extreme even more so than in the states!! Nothing in this place is worth the additional cost !! Pay your $1600 to them enjoy it and that's it.. do not give this place another dime!! They are not honest and there is a hidden or additional fee to everything here!!

I recently stayed at this 5-star resort for my honeymoon, and I have to say, it was a huge disappointment. The resort promises 5 stars, but in reality, it's far from it. The prices are seriously overpriced for what you get. The only good thing about this resort was the dinner reservation restaurants. We had a good experience dining at them. However, that's about where the positives end. From the moment we arrived, the service was terrible. We felt like we were treated unfairly compared to older couples - they got help with luggage and a resort tour, but we didn't. We had booked a honeymoon suite, but the front desk guy, Abraham, gave us a dirty room with no view on the outskirts of the resort. When I complained, he didn't call his supervisor as requested and instead gave us another room, but not the one we paid for. To make matters worse, our room had constant alarm disruptions past midnight, and we had no privacy. We felt harassed. What's even more frustrating is that Abraham offered to upgrade us to a bigger suite at check-in, but it wasn't free. He wanted to upsell us when we had already paid a lot for our vacation. The food was a letdown too. At the buffet, staff rarely checked in on us or offered drinks. We had to ask just to receive water. The pool lunch area was slightly better, but overall, the experience was still not great. The resort itself was not well-maintained - dirty interior, dirty glass doors, and not enough seating. The beach was closed due to seaweed, that’s that we went towards the end of June. and there weren't enough entertainment options. The ambiance was completely lacking. Overall, I would not recommend this resort to anyone. Save your money and choose another resort to stay at. Our honeymoon was a very unsatisfactory and unhappy experience because of this resort."

We had a great time at Playacar Palace for our honeymoon. The staff were all very friendly, attentive, and helpful. We arrived slightly early and before we even checked in, we were offered cake and drinks and some time to relax in very welcome air conditioning. The restaurants were each unique and impressive experiences, and they accommodated dietary needs well. Our room was well cleaned and the room service was well appreciated, though it would have been nice to have some more non-alcoholic options in the minibar. Our favorite server was Israel, who did an outstanding job at attending to our table (and should honestly get a promotion). The pool has lots of activities to enjoy, making the beach optional when there is seaweed which is cleaned regularly but kept being brought in by the waves. The location is ideal for going on the ferry to cozumel or visiting playa del carmen, and parking was available with a valet service. We highly recommend!
